China is a land of wonders (and counterfeits products). A river in eastern china has mysteriously morphed to a rich crimson. Locals said the river appeared to be a perfectly normal colour around 5am local time, but less than one hour later, people suddenly noticed the blood-red metamorphosis.
The officials at Wenzhou Environmental Protection Bureau were unable to find any specific causes for the transformation, although water samples seem to indicate the suspicious colour was a result of illegal dumping in the river.
“We suspect that somebody dumped artificial colouring in the water because they thought the typhoon yesterday would cause heavy rain, and nobody would notice [the colour],” Jianfeng Xiao, Chief of the bureau told China News. Xiao added that the businesses along the river include a food colouring company, a clothing shop and a paper manufacturer.
