We’d had our eyes on Josh Butler long before we spoke to him last summer, and since then our admiration has only grown. Now the rising house and techno producer is back with a powerful three track EP on Joris Voorn’s lauded Rejected label.
The title track showcases Butler’s characteristic combination of minimalism and depth, with atmospheric pads building an inimitable groove. Percussion takes centre stage in both versions of the track, with the perfectly tuned conga rolls truly driving the dub version. On the flip, Need Me goes deeper, with minimalist instrumentation and a driving bassline sweetened by a soulful vocal. The whole EP is a masterclass in driving percussion, and is sure to be heard on dance floors across the world over the summer.
Over the last few years Josh has received unwavering support from tastemakers Pete Tong and Annie Mac along with industry heavyweights Tiga, Groove Armada, Nile Rogers and Fatboy Slim to name a few, and with a slew of consistently strong EPs like this one to his name, it’s not hard to see why.
Listen above.
